CamGSM inks USD150 million deal with Alcatel-Lucent

Cambodian cellco CamGSM, a joint venture between Luxembourg’s Millicom International Cellular (58.4%) and the Royal Group of Cambodia (41.6%) which operates under the Mobitel brand, has signed an agreement to purchase USD150 million worth of telecoms equipment from French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent, allowing for a major expansion of the cellco’s rural network. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, CamGSM is Cambodia’s leading cellco by subscribers, with a customer base of 1.314 million at the end of June 2007, approximately 70% of the market.
