Bezeq International denied VOB licence

6 Sep 2007

The Jerusalem Post reports that the Israeli Supreme Court has forbidden the Communications Ministry from granting a voice-over-broadband (VOB) licence to Bezeq International until parent company Bezeq’s share of the fixed line market falls below 85% from its current 98%.

The ruling leaves 012 as the sole VOB provider for domestic calls in Israel. It was the first to receive an experimental licence for VOB telephony, which it launched in August 2005 to a limited customer base of 7,500. 012 currently has over 25,000 VOB customers across the country.
