TransTelecom gets WiMAX frequencies

Russian long-distance operator TransTelecom has been awarded 3.5GHz and 5.7GHz spectrum which it intends to use to offer wireless broadband access in 27 regions. The Vladivostok Times reports that the telco will be targeting cities in Russia’s Far East Federal District, using pre-WiMAX equipment to provide wireless internet services. Its first networks are expected to go live by the end of this year.
