J:COM to complete merger with Jupiter TV

30 Aug 2007

Japanese multi-service operator (MSO) Jupiter Communications (J:COM) says its planned merger with channel operator Jupiter TV willed be completed by 1 September 2007. The tie-up will enable the MSO to ‘further strengthen its position in the multiple pay channel broadcasting market and expand its business’, it said in a statement. The merger will create two new entities, J:COM Company, which will handle cable TV operations and management, and Jupiter TV Company, which will be responsible for programme delivery. Jupiter TV currently manages and promotes eight channels including Movie Plus, Reality TV, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, LaLa TV and Discovery HD.
