Deutsche Telekom in talks over iPhone

30 Aug 2007

A senior executive of German incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT) has confirmed his company is in talks with US vendor Apple about selling the latter’s iPhone handset in Germany. Apple is rumoured to be announcing one or more of its European distributors at the IFA Consumer Electronics Show, which begins in Berlin on 31 August. Hamid Akhavan, CEO of DT’s cellular subsidiary T-Mobile International, said, ‘We have held talks with Apple but have nothing more to say at this time.’ Apple has said nothing more than that it plans to launch the iPhone handset in Europe later this year. It is officially only available on the AT&T network in the US.
