Samsung wins ‘plum’ WiMAX contract in New York

Sprint Nextel has awarded a New York WiMAX contract to Samsung. The Korean vendor was earlier awarded similar deals for Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and Providence, Rhode Island. Sprint Nextel plans to spend up to USD5 billion building a nationwide wireless broadband network based on WiMAX technology. Samsung will provide the equipment for the US network and Sprint Nextel will operate it. Sprint expects to offer its XOHM-branded WiMAX services to a potential 100 million customers in most of the major cities in the US by the end of 2008.
