28 Aug 2007

Cellco Viettel, owned by the Vietnamese military, has selected US vendor ECI Telecom’s optical and broadband access equipment to expand its network. ECI has supplied its ‘XDM Multi-Service Transmission Platform’ (MSTP), ‘BroadGate Multi-Service Provisioning Platform’ (MSPP) and ‘Hi-FOCuS Multi-Service Access Node’ (MSAN) platform in an IP DSLAM configuration. The project is being implemented by ECI’s business partner in Vietnam, Ntegrator, and includes the construction of a 2,000km long haul Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), network with a capacity of 10Gbps over 40 channels based on the XDM platform. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Viettel was the country’s leading cellco by subscribers at the end of June 2007, with ten million customers.
