Omantel rules out Kuwait bid

28 Aug 2007

Incumbent telco Oman Telecommunications (Omantel) has said it has no plans to compete for a stake in Kuwait’s third mobile phone firm, which is being set up by the government. Omantel was named as one of a number of potential bidders for the 26% stake in a report in Kuwait’s Al-Wasat newspaper last week. Two of the other potential suitors named in the article, Saudi Telecom (STC) and the UAE’s Etisalat, have both confirmed their interest. The deadline for submissions to bid is 7 September.
