Sprint Nextel inks WiMAX CPE supply contract with Zyxel

US telco Sprint Nextel has signed a supply contract with Zyxel Communications of Taiwan for WiMAX customer premise equipment (CPE) capable of supporting the 802.16e Wave 2 standard. In a press statement, the vendor said it was supplying its MAX-100 series PCMCIA cards and MAX-200 series plug-and-play routers, which will enable Sprint Nextel to deliver last mile wireless broadband access to customers as an alternative to cable and DSL. Sprint Nextel is looking to roll out a wide scale wireless broadband network and has earmarked USD5 billion to build out its WiMAX infrastructure and services over the next three years.
