Indotel launches pilot broadband scheme

22 Aug 2007

Telecoms regulator Indotel has launched a pilot rural broadband project in one of the country’s most disconnected areas, the Los Botados municipality, the government said in a statement quoted by BNamericas. The internet service, which is being provided by Caribbean mobile company Centennial, is part of a larger project: Indotel plans to launch an international tender for a contract to provide broadband connectivity to 323 communities in 16 provinces. The project is one of eleven such schemes announced by Indotel last May for the 2008 to 2009 period in which the government expects to invest USD24.8 million.
