HTIL reports buoyant first half results

Hutchison Telecommunications International (HTIL) has posted first-half results showing 12% year-on-year sales growth to HKD9.6 billion (USD1.23 billion) and a 15% hike in EBITDA to HKD2.9 billion. During the period the company sold Indian cellco Hutchison Essar to Vodafone, and launched operations in Indonesia and Vietnam. CEO Dennis Lui revealed that HTIL plans to use the proceeds from the India sale to expand into other emerging markets. At 30 June HTIL had a total of 6.82 million subscribers at its established wireless units in Hong Kong, Israel, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Macao and Ghana, with a further 180,000 in Vietnam and more than one million in Indonesia.
