Flemish cable company Telenet is considering joining Belgo-Dutch telecoms group Scarlet Telecom in a bid for Tele2’s Belgian operations, according to financial daily De Tijd, citing unnamed sources. On Tuesday Tele2 said it had been approached by a number of interested parties, after which KPN issued a statement saying it has held talks to discuss a possible EUR100 million takeover of Tele2/Versatel Belgium. Telenet is mainly interested in Tele2’s 10,600 business customers, which could strengthen its Telenet Solutions unit, which focuses on the business telecommunications market. Telenet had previously said it was looking into a bid for the Belgian unit, but decided not to push ahead with talks. Scarlet did however make an offer, and following talks with Telenet, the Flemish cable group is once again ‘involved in the dossier’, De Tijd says.
