14 Aug 2007

BNamericas reports that Personal, the mobile arm of incumbent telco Telecom Argentina, expects investment in the company’s recently launched 3G network to total USD25 million this year, according to CEO Carlos Felices. ‘Our plan is to expand the network to the north of Buenos Aires and to provide coverage in other big cities such as Rosario and Córdoba by year-end,’ Felices said, adding that future expansion plans will depend on market demand. The cellco launched 3G in a limited area in Buenos Aires in May 2007. Felices also said the only 3G handsets available at present in Argentina were Samsung’s and LG’s, but was expecting other vendors to launch their own models soon.
