China Telecom to pay RMB110b for Unicom's CDMA network?

13 Aug 2007

Shanghai Daily reports that China Telecom is close to finalising talks with China Unicom to buy the cellco’s CDMA network for an estimated RMB110 billion (USD14.54 billion). Speculation has surfaced sporadically over the past year that the People’s Republic’s largest telecoms operators, which include China Mobile and China Netcom, are on the verge of a major asset reshuffle as part of a wider government restructuring agenda. It is also rumoured that China Netcom will buy China Unicom’s GSM network.
