Russia’s third largest cellular operator by subscribers, MegaFon, says it is planning to launch 3G services in 16 regions by 2009. The company’s general director Sergei Soldatenkov made the announcement at a press conference but refused to identify which regions it would be targeting, saying only that they would be selected based on factors including customer demand and frequency range, reports Interfax. MegaFon plans to invest around USD1 billion on its 3G rollout by 2009, with initial deployments expected to focus on major regional population centres.
