According to a report in the UK broadsheet The Times, NOW, the broadband service provider owned by PCCW, is up for sale. It is reported that it has held talks with at least one rival.
When it launched its wireless broadband service in 2004, NOW had said it would go head to head with the likes of BT, having invested USD14 million in spectrum licences. However, despite high expectations the group had amassed only 14,000 customers by last summer. Part of the reason for its lacklustre performance has been blamed on the fact that its top download speed is just 1Mbps, compared to rivals’ speeds of up to 24Mbps.
