Netcom surrenders right to build WiMAX network to China Mobile

1 Aug 2007

China Mobile has been authorised to construct a WiMAX network for the 2008 Olympics, while China Netcom has had its right to build a wireless broadband network in Beijing cancelled. The development will come as a disappointment to China Netcom, which had announced plans to deploy a rival technology, the Multicarrier Wireless internet Local Loop (McWiLL). McWiLL is based on the SCDMA technology in the 400-MHz band and has been developed by Beijing Xinwei Telecom Technology.
