Brazilian telco Brasil Telecom Participacoes yesterday posted a second quarter net profit of BRL145.5 million (USD77 million) for the three months to end-June, a near 39% rise on the corresponding period a year ago. EBITDA climbed from BRL813.6 million to BRL972.7 million, while net revenue climbed 12% year-on-year to BRL2.74 billion. Contributions from fixed line operations was down from the previous year, although the losses were offset by mobile and broadband internet contributions, despite the mobile arm posting a loss of BRL47.9 million. At the end of June 2007, Brasil Telecom had 3.77 million mobile subscribers, up 36% year-on-year and the number of broadband customers was up 26% to 1.45 million. The number of fixed lines in service slipped from 9.4 million to 8.1 million.
