UAE fixed line monopoly ends with du launch

Second national operator du has launched services, bringing to an end Etisalat’s fixed line monopoly. The operator was due to launch earlier this month but missed the deadline. However, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority now reports that: ‘Fixed line subscribers are now able to choose one of the two UAE telecom operators for calls from their homes and offices to national and international numbers. The deadline given to du to launch such a service was 26 July’.
