Dario Oliver, general manager of Telpin – one of 250 cooperatives represented by the association Fecotel, has told BNamericas that he expects Fecotel to attain 70,000 customers in its first year of operations, and 1.7 million users by the seventh year of service. Regulator SeCom authorised Fecotel to provide mobile telephony on 24 July. ‘In the coming days we will request spectrum to launch mobile telephony services. We believe we will need 10MHz in the 1900MHz band for our project. With that we will be able to launch a national network,’ Oliver said. He added that the association plans to start deploying basic infrastructure by the end of 2007.
