Idea reports 1Q results

Idea Cellular, the Indian GSM network operator with licences to operate in 13 telecoms circles, has announced that at the end of its first quarter (ended 30 June 2007) it had 16.13 million subscribers, of which 90.5% were pre-paid. Gross revenues for the period rose 63.4% year-on-year to INR14.77 billion (USD366 million), while EBITDA jumped from INR3.04 billion to INR5.13 billion. Profit after tax more than tripled from INR859 million to INR3.08 billion. The company is currently awaiting allocation of spectrum to allow it to launch operations in the Mumbai and Bihar areas; in its current service areas, Idea consolidated its subscriber market share from 14.9% at the end of March 2007 to 15.4% at the end of June.
