Trouble in Gabon for Maroc Télécom?

25 Jul 2007

Maroc Télécom’s recent purchase of a controlling stake in Gabonese incumbent Gabon Telecom could be under threat, reports local news service Gaboneco.com, with word emerging that a court in the west African country has suspended the completion of the privatisation deal whilst it looks into the details of the transaction. The news follows allegations concerning Gabon Telecom’s understatement of debt and other financial issues. Maroc Télécom won a government tender to acquire a 51% stake in Gabon Telecom and its 100% owned mobile subsidiary Libertis for USD79 million in February 2007.
