Saudi Arabia’s second largest cellular operator by customers, Mobily, says it now has 1.8 million 3.5G HSDPA subscribers. The firm, which launched in mid-2005, says it is continuing the expansion of its HSDPA network, investing SAR1 billion (USD266 million) on its rollout in 2007. ’We will include more cities and towns, and extend broadband services to accommodate the high unprecedented traffic on our nodes,’ says Mobily spokesperson Humoud Al Ghobaini. HSDPA infrastructure has so far been deployed in 23 towns and cities, incorporating more than 1,000 base stations.
Separately, Mobily is set to launch an unlimited mobile TV package at the end of this month. For a fixed monthly fee of SAR50, both pre- and post-paid subscribers will be able to access unlimited mobile TV broadcasts on a bundle of channels which includes content from CNN, Al Arabiya, CNBC Arabia, Al-Ekhbaria, SpaceToon, Al-Afasi and Al-Risala.
