Google to enter 700MHz sale

US-based internet search engine Google has pledged to bid at least USD4.6 billion in the government’s planned 700MHz spectrum auction, saying it will use the frequencies to further the spread of wireless internet services. In a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, Google urges the regulator to protect consumer interests by adopting an open platform for services in the 700MHz band and ensuring that smaller providers can lease capacity on networks at negotiated rates.
