Embratel Q2 net income up at USD269m

Brazilian fixed line operator Embratel Participações has reported second quarter 2007 net profits of BRL499 million(USD269 million), up 23% from BRL131 million in 2Q06, reports BNamericas citing a company statement. The operator booked revenues of BRL2.1 billion in the fiscal second quarter, up from BRL2.04 billion in the same period of 2006. Net profits in 1H07 reached BRL631 million, 143% higher than BRL259 million a year ago, as first half revenues rose 3.4% to BRL4.21 billion on the back of a 35% rise in local services revenues. Sales of voice services accounted for BRL2.21 billion (down from BRL2.37 billion previously), while revenues from long-distance calls, the operator’s core business, fell 3.4% year-on-year to BRL2.03 billion.
