Rivals see red over Orange

20 Jul 2007

Alternative operators neuf Cegetel and Iliad (Free) have complained to the French TV regulator Le Conseil Superieur de l’Audiovisuel, about a new video-on-demand (VoD) service, Rewind TV, being offered by rival Orange France in conjunction with France Television. Orange agreed a pact with France Television earlier this month but neuf and Free argue the exclusive partnership contravenes the broadcaster’s obligations to the public. Under the deal Orange customers will gain access to a bouquet of programmes for up to 30 days after their first transmission. However, Free’s director general Maxime Lombardini says the non-tender arrangement is nothing short of ‘scandalous’.
