Brazil’s telecoms watchdog Anatel is to increase fixed line tariffs – including monthly rental fees and per minute call charges – by between 1.8% and 2.2%, it said in a statement. The new rates will take effect 48 hours after each operator publishes its new rates, it said. It is understood that Telefónica’s Telesp unit will increase rates by 2.2%, Sercomtel (2.2%) Brasil Telecom (2.1%) and Oi (Telemar) 1.8%. Long-distance operator Embratel is expected to cut its charges by 1.4%.
