Telstra echos O2 UK and ditches i-mode

19 Jul 2007

NTT DoCoMo has revealed that Australian partner Telstra will terminate its i-mode internet service on 10 December, in a second major blow to the technology in just a few days. Earlier this week UK cellco O2 also revealed it would no-longer be offering the Japanese designed web access service to customers. Telstra launched its i-mode service in November 2004, but subscription did not grow as expected, according to a Telstra public relations official. A lack of handsets and web sites were seen as contributing factors in the decision to dump the service.
