EU approves SFR’s Tele2 France buy

19 Jul 2007

According to reports from AFX News, the European Commission has cleared, albeit with certain conditions, SFR’s proposed acquisition of Tele2 France’s fixed telephone and internet access activities. Although the Commission is happy for the deal to proceed, it has done though on the proviso that SFR shareholder Vivendi agrees to offer equal access to all companies in the pay-TV sector. SFR and Tele2 struck the deal last October but Brussels launched an in-depth investigation into the acquisition in March, citing the possible adverse effects on competition in the pay-TV segment as the reason. Vivendi already owns the French pay-TV group Canal Plus.
