Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has won a contract to develop IPTV infrastructure for Brazil’s largest fixed line operator Oi, reports tech news service Computerworld. The Brazilian telco hopes to inaugurate IPTV services in Rio de Janeiro before the end of this year, it added. No financial details were disclosed.
The infrastructure supplier estimates there will be close to a million video-on-demand (VoD) subscribers in Brazil by 2010, out of a total of 2.3 million for the Latin American region. The company also forecasts VoD take-up will reach 1.8 million users in Brazil and 4.6 million in Latin America by 2012.
