Ericsson wins IMS deal with Vodafone

18 Jul 2007

Ericsson has won a contract from Vodafone Portugal for the provision of a core IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The companies say the contract is a key stepping stone to allow Vodafone to introduce a new generation of fixed and mobile convergent services. IMS-based services enable communication through various media – such as voice, text, pictures and video, or a combination of them – adapted to each individual’s preference. Vodafone is Portugal’s second largest cellco, with 4.8 million subscribers and a 38% market share at the end of March, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
