The Taiwanese government has shortlisted eight firms in its auction of six regional WiMAX wireless broadband licences. The National Communications Commission has approved the bids submitted by Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone, Vastar Cable TV System, Global On, Tatung Telecommunications, First International Telecom and the joint venture between Vibo Telecom and Tecom. Five unnamed bidders had their applications rejected. The second stage of the tender process begins on 26 July. Three six-year licences are available in the north of Taiwan, with another three covering the south.
