Russia’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, MTS, ended June with 52.68 million domestic customers, an increase of 530,000 from the end of May. The cellco claims just under twelve million subscribers in the Moscow region and more than 2.6 million in St Petersburg and the Leningrad area. Its international operations saw mixed fortunes: MTS Ukraine lost 610,000 subscribers in June to end the month with a customer base of 19.81 million, although this was still up on the year-ago figure of 15.11 million. Meanwhile, its operations in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan saw monthly growth of over 5% to claim 1.95 million and 240,000 users respectively at end-June. Its unconsolidated subsidiary in Belarus had 3.48 million customers at the same date, a monthly increase of 70,000.
