CallPlus refutes financing claims

16 Jul 2007

The New Zealand wireless ISP CallPlus has rejected speculation that a NZD450 million (USD352 million) financing package for its planned WiMAX rollout has fallen through. Local newspaper National Business Review (NBR) quoted a source close to the company as saying that the firm had run into problems with the technology and its financing deal with Japanese bank Marubeni had been cancelled. CallPlus says the story was incorrect, however, and added that its finance facility is ‘securely in place’. It also says that there are no technical issues with its WiMAX tests and that trial customers have so far been ‘very pleased with the results’. Local news portal Computerworld says the NBR is standing by its story.
