DoCoMo, Napster roll out new music subscription service

13 Jul 2007

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo and Los Angeles-based Napster have rolled out the latter’s over-the-air (OTA) music service on all the cellco’s handsets, the pair said in a joint statement. The two companies originally intended to introduce the service, which will be billed directly through a subscriber’s mobile phone bill, in April. The firm’s mobile services in Japan are a joint venture with Tower Records Japan and NTT DoCoMo. Napster also has an agreement to sell its music subscription service through DoCoMo rival, KDDI’s au Corp, and has offered its PC-based music subscription services in Japan since 2006.
