Wind and 3 to sell towers

12 Jul 2007

Italian cellcos Wind and 3 have joined forces in a deal to sell their cellular infrastructure, according to the Wall Street Journal. Wind’s owner Naguib Sawiris said the sale could fetch up to EUR2 billion (USD2.75 billion) and help his company to lower costs and reduce debt. Sources close to the matter said that private equity firm TPG may bid for the Italian mobile towers, working with Italian tower owner DMT and possibly another investment firm. Other interested parties include Spain’s Abertis Infraestructuras and Italian road-builder Atlantia, previously known as Autostrade.
