Unions get together for wage push

10 Jul 2007

Local newspaper Ámbito Financiero reports that Argentina’s six telecoms unions are to set up a committee to coordinate their demands for salary increases from the country’s two largest telcos Telecom Argentina and Telefónica de Argentina. The unions have been calling for a 25% increase in wages and have already carried out three 48-hour strikes during June after rejecting proposed salary increases by the operators. They have also instructed their workers to continue ‘working to rule’, which is adversely affecting operations, long distance interconnection and customer support services. The committee is scheduled to meet today to lay down a future plan of action.
