Econet 3G-ready but lacking frequencies

10 Jul 2007

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has announced it is capable of offering 3G services but stated that a commercial launch has been delayed due to a lack of spectrum. Local newspaper The Herald cites a statement from the cellco saying: ‘We have already installed the equipment but unfortunately we have not yet been allocated the frequencies on which to offer this service. We are however confident that our application for the frequencies will be approved soon.’ Last month the company revealed that it had completed deployment of GPRS on its network.
