9 Jul 2007

Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has reported results for the first six months of 2007. Total turnover was VND15.6 trillion (USD987 million). Nguyen Ba Thuoc, VNPT’s deputy general director, said the company had experienced growth despite the increased competition in the industry. ‘The strong growth rate is attributed to rising phone subscriber numbers, international direct dialing (IDD) services and charges as well as new services,’ he said. The first half of the year saw VNPT gain 114,700 new fixed telephony users, taking its total to 2.68 million, a 23% increase from a year earlier. The company also boasted 262.2 million minutes of IDD, a 68.6% jump year-on-year. VNPT also signed 13,293 new subscribers to its broadband service MegaVNN, taking the total customer base to 460,000. VNPT expects to earn VND42.1 trillion over the whole of 2007, a 9.8% increase from 2006, and is aiming for half a million broadband customers by the year end. Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) figures show VNPT was the top telecoms earner in 2006, recording VND38.3 trillion in revenues, followed by Viettel, SPT and EVN Telecom, which secured VND7.1 trillion, VND1.1 trillion and VND1 trillion respectively.
