Following a two-stage process to select a company to create an integrated government computer network, Georgian cellco MagtiCom has been selected for the contract out of six hopeful companies. ‘[We will] create a united and safe computer VPN-type network in Georgia that will connect governmental structures online; this will help in exchanging information. At the same time this will reduce the state’s communication expenses,’ said State Minister for Reforms Coordination Kakha Bendukidze. He added that five hundred nodes for information exchange would be created in the first stage of the project, and MagtiCom would provide internet services, allowing the government to digitise all its records and data.
