On Telecoms’ VoIP service rolling with Italtel

27 Jun 2007

Greek alternative telco On Telecoms has contracted Italian vendor Italtel to implement a multiservice VoIP platform to support its rollout of triple-play internet, voice and IPTV services. Italtel has provided On Telecoms with its next-generation network (NGN) architecture and softswitch platform, which controls both access nodes and customer premises equipment, to complete the development of a VoIP platform for the Attica region, including Athens. The rollout forms part of a launch of triple-play services, including unlimited national and international voice calls, IPTV, video- on-demand and broadband internet access at speeds of up to 10Mbps. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, On Telecoms launched triple-play services in Athens in late January 2007, over incumbent OTE’s unbundled ADSL connections and its own all-IP metropolitan fibre-optic network. On Telecom’s triple-play ‘All-in-One’ residential packages consist of ADSL2+ broadband access, a fixed telephone connection, free TV channels via IPTV and optional ‘Nova IPTV’ pay channels, with a single bill for all services and line rental.
