Telecom New Zealand says that over half of its national CDMA2000 1xEV-DO mobile broadband network has now been upgraded with quicker Revision A technology. The firm has completed the first phase of the upgrade process, which began in Auckland at the end of last year and has since taken in the country’s major cities. The telco is now continuing the deployment to other areas where EV-DO networks have been rolled out. ‘Currently Telecom customers in all the main cities and many of the larger towns have access to enhanced Mobile Broadband, and by the end of the year our entire EVDO network – which covers over 70% of the places New Zealanders live and work – will be upgraded,’ says Telecom’s GM of Business Products, Martin Butler. The upgrade to EV-DO Rev A increases download speeds by up to 15% and average upload speeds by 500%, Telecom says.
