Broadband subs top 1.5 million

The number of residential broadband connections in Argentina reached 1.5 million at the end of March, up 72.5% compared to 898,944 at end-March 2006, according to BNamericas, quoting a report from government statistics bureau Indec. The total number of residential internet connections, including dial-up, totalled 2.57 million at the end of 1Q 2007, up 12.4% from 2.28 million at the same point in 2006. Some 663,905 connections were pay-as-you-go dial-up. Meanwhile corporate internet connections increased 22.7% year-on-year standing at 246,166 at end-March. Within the corporate sector the number of broadband connections grew 36.9% to 171,095 while the total number of dial-up connections fell 10.9% to 53,264. 99% of corporate internet accesses were of the type requiring a contract.
