eMobile picks Comverse OSE and SMSC SMS solution

Japanese mobile start-up eMobile, part of the eAccess group, has selected software and systems services developer Comverse, to supply it with its Comverse InSight Open Services Environment (OSE) and Comverse SMSC SMS text messaging solution to provide subscribers with a broad range of messaging and call completion value added services (VAS). eMobile says the Comverse supplied products will enable it to provide both traditional and cutting-edge services that ‘match and in some cases surpass the offerings of our well-entrenched competitors,’ said Mr. Masatoshi Hongo, Senior Vice President, Technology & Engineering Division, eMobile.

Japan’s third largest ISP eAccess won a domestic mobile licence in November 2005 says TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database and is rolling out its wireless services in competition with the big three network operators NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Softbank Mobile, and new entrant IPMobile through its wholly owned unit eMobile. In April 2006 eMobile said it planned to raise JPY42 billion (USD359 million) from issuing new shares to help fund network rollout, adding that it had also secured a JPY220 billion credit line from banks — thought to be the largest non-recourse project-finance loan in Japan, which was surprising for a company whose services had not yet begun.
