Indosat reports strong rise in revenues, profits in Q1

Indonesian telecoms operator Indosat has reported a strong rise in revenue and profits in the three months ended 31 March 2007. Revenues in the period climbed by 30.2% year-on-year from IDR2.89 trillion to IDR3.78 trillion, while operating income rose 22.8% to IDR1.04 trillion and net income reached IDR483.9 billion, up 26% y-o-y. Indosat reported growth from each of its operating units. Its mobile arm Satelindo posted a 33.5% rise in operating revenues on the back of 1.3 million net new additions and a rise in voice and SMS usage in the quarter, to end March with more than 18 million mobile users. By the start of April the group’s mobile network comprised 7,666 base station transceivers, a 445 rise on the end of 2006. Indosat also reported strong demand for fixed wireless access services and said it had 438,217 users at 31 March.
