Telecom Cook Islands deploys new softswitch

LGC Wireless, a specialist provider of wireless coverage and capacity solutions, yesterday announced that Telecom Cook Islands will deploy its new GSM IP softswitch. By upgrading its core wireless network to more efficient, IP-based technology, the Pacific island-based telco is aiming to reduce costs while enabling new, value added services such as integrated SMS, voice mail, GPRS data applications and new pre-paid services. According to a press release, the new IP softswitch will allow the operator to offer a higher capacity cellular service with enhanced performance.
