UK consultancy Aircom International has signed a contract with Vodafone Italy to provide the cellco with data collection services across the whole of Italy for the next two years. Aircom’s work will allow Vodafone Italy to assess the performance of its GSM and UMTS networks by supplying accurate network data for benchmarking. ‘Aircom has been working with Vodafone Italy since it began using our OPTIMA network monitoring tool in 2004,’ said Marc Penesso, managing director of Aircom Italy. Prior to this contract, Vodafone’s ‘quality of service’ assessment was performed internally, using temporary contractors to test network performance. Its GSM network covers 97% of territory and 99.4% of population, while its developing UMTS network covers 75% of population.
