Softbank Mobile tops Japan’s mobile subscriber growth table in May

Japan’s smallest mobile operator by subscribers, Softbank Mobile (formerly Vodafone KK), recorded the strongest net growth in mobile subscriptions in May, according to data published by the Telecommunications Carriers Association. Softbank Mobile added 162,400 net new subscribers in the period under review, eclipsing its rivals for the first time since the association began compiling records in January 1996. KDDI reported 138,500 net additions last month, while the country’s number one player by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, added 82,700.
