8 Jun 2007

Swedish vendor Ericsson is building an HSPA-enabled 3G network for Argentinean cellco Telecom Personal. Ericsson will also expand and update Personal’s existing network with switching software. Under the deal, Ericsson will provide new 3G/HSPA core and radio networks, enabling provision of mobile multimedia and data services with download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps and upload speeds of 1.4Mbps, increasing to 42Mbps and 12Mbp respectively with future upgrades. Telecom Personal, a subsidiary of fixed line incumbent Telecom Argentina, is Argentina’s third largest cellco by subscribers, recording 9.31 million users at the end of March 2007, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
