Anatel awards TIM Brasil fixed line telephony licence

7 Jun 2007

The Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has issued a fixed line telephony licence to TIM Brasil, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers. Although the operator already offers customers a service which allows some 400,000 mobile subscribers to make calls at fixed line rates, until now it has been the only mobile operator without a sister unit in the fixed line market, writes BNamericas. The fixed line concession will help TIM establish a toehold in the burgeoning triple-play market.
